8th Grade Promotion Requirements

Dear Piute Families,
As we look ahead to your student’s 2026 promotion, we want to take a moment to remind you of the requirements for participating in and “walking” at our promotion ceremony.
  • Students must maintain a combined average of a “C-” or better in Citizenship for each academic quarter (1st, 2nd & 3rd). In the 4th quarter of the 2025-2026 school year students must have at least a “C-” in citizenship and adhere to the school district's civility and conduct policies (Board Policy 1313, BP 5131, BP 6145), which address denial of participation in extracurricular events/privileges through the last day of school.
  • Students must have at least a 1.50 GPA in the second semester to participate in the promotion ceremony.
  • If a student is suspended within 3 days of the promotion ceremony, they will not be able to participate (BP 6145).
  • Based on student behavior, school administration will determine the eligibility of any student placed in the In-School Intervention class at any point in the last 10 days.
  • Any student who is chronically absent (20 days in the school year) may not participate in the promotion ceremony.
  • Students who transfer in from other schools prior to the ceremony will have eligibility determined on a case by case basis based on previous school records and current school academics/behavior.
  • Parents will be notified if their student does not meet the requirements at least ten days prior to the end of the year. Students must still meet eligibility requirements on the day before the ceremony.
  • Please remember to log in to PowerSchool every two weeks to review your student’s GPA and citizenship grades.
We are excited to celebrate this milestone and will be sharing more details as the date approaches. Thank you for your support in helping our students have a successful year!

Sincerely,

Joe Lomonaco
Piute Principal
