8th Grade Promotion Requirements
Dear Piute Families:
As we look toward your student’s 2026 promotion we want to make sure we remind you of the 8th grade requirements to participate and “walk” at our promotion ceremony to be held in June 2026.
- Students must maintain a combined average of a “C-” or better in Citizenship for each academic quarter (1st, 2nd & 3rd). In the 4th quarter of the 2025-2026 school year students must have at least a “C-” in citizenship and adhere to the school district's civility and conduct policies (Board Policy 1313, BP 5131, BP 6145), which address denial of participation in extracurricular events/privileges through the last day of the school year.
- Students must have at least a 1.83 GPA in the second semester to participate in the promotion ceremony.
- If a student is suspended within 3 days of the promotion ceremony, they will not be able to participate (BP 6145).
- Based on student behavior, school administration will determine the eligibility of any student placed in the In-School Intervention class at any point in the last 10 school days.
- Any student who is chronically absent (18 school days or more in the school year) may not participate in the promotion ceremony (Education Code 60901(c)(1)).
- Students who transfer in from other schools prior to the ceremony will have eligibility determined on a case by case basis based on previous school records and current school academics/behavior.
- Parents will be notified if their student does not meet the requirements at least 10 school days prior to the end of the year. Students must still meet eligibility requirements on the day before the ceremony.
We will be sending more information regarding tickets and times of the promotion ceremony after we return from spring break 2026
